10 steps to learn snowboarding on dryski machines
Learning to snowboard is a journey—one that becomes smoother and safer with the help of dryski machines. At MagicPow, our snowboard training system follows a structured step-by-step progression to help beginners develop real riding skills before hitting the slopes.
Here are the 10 essential steps to mastering snowboarding on our dryski machines:
Step 1: Strapping on Your Snowboard
We begin with the basics—getting comfortable with your gear. Your coach will show you how to correctly strap into your snowboard and stand in your riding stance. This first step sets the tone for stability and control.
Step 2: Handling Heel Edge Balancing & Sliding
You’ll start learning how to balance on your heel edge. With the support of the coach and the hand bar, you’ll begin sliding down gently while maintaining control on the heel edge.
Step 3: Holding Heel Edge Drift
Next, we focus on drifting—sliding steadily on your heel edge without catching an edge or spinning out. This teaches edge control and pressure management.
Step 4: Making Heel Edge Power Pendulum
Once you’re steady, you’ll practice heel-side pendulum motions, swinging from side to side using only the heel edge. This develops rhythm, weight shifting, and turn initiation skills.
Step 5: Executing Heel Edge J Turn
Now you’ll start turning. The heel-side J turn involves sliding down the slope and then curving uphill slightly to stop. This movement introduces turn control while staying on the heel edge.
Step 6: Handling Toe Edge Balancing & Drifting
Time to switch edges! You’ll learn to balance and drift on the toe edge, which feels different and often more challenging for beginners. Controlled drifting here builds all-around board control.
Step 7: Making Toe Edge Power Pendulum
Similar to the heel edge, you’ll practice toe-side pendulum motions. This helps reinforce edge confidence and dynamic movement from both sides of the board.
Step 8: Executing Heel Edge & Toe Edge C Turn
With both edges under control, it’s time to link them. You’ll learn how to make C-shaped turns using a combination of heel and toe edge transitions.
Step 9: Executing Beginner Turn
This stage combines previous skills into full, continuous beginner turns down the slope. Your coach will guide you through smooth, flowing turns while maintaining speed control.
Step 10: Performing Novic Turn
Finally, you’ll reach the novice turn—a higher-level version of the beginner turn with improved edge engagement, timing, and pressure control. You’ll start riding more confidently, with better flow and control over terrain variations.
